Meet the judge

I would like to start with a huge thank you for inviting me to judge in Ridgebacks Germany. It’s always a great honor to judge a club show.

My name is Joel Lantz and my life is all about dogs!

I live in a small village north of Stockholm, Sweden, with my husband Andreas, or son Amadeus and a pack of dogs, two cats and two horses.

I grew up with dogs, horses, and cats. The dogs I grew up with were mostly gun dogs like the Hamilton hound and Finnish Hound, and so it was only natural for me to get my hunting license. A big part of my life growing up was hunting.

When I met Andreas over 20 years ago, he had a cavalier and it took me about a minute to completely fall in love with the breed, and I have loved the cavaliers ever since.

As we shared the passion of dogs and shows, it was only natural for us to start breeding cavaliers. We have successfully bred them now for over 20 years.

I was authorized by the FCI to judge dogs in 2016. I am authorized to judge breeds from groups 2, 4/6, 8 and 9 and I keep educating myself to get my authorization for more breeds as it’s my absolute passion.

Judging dogs is so much more than just award a dog a price. It is history right in front of your eyes.

When it comes to the lovely and amazing breed, Rhodesian ridgeback, I was first introduced to them in my teens. I was instantly fascinated by them and there was something very special about them. I have been lucky enough to have some of our closest friends breeding ridgebacks which has given me an opportunity to spend time with them, showing them and just be around them. It was also one of the first breeds I was authorized to judge. A breed very, very close to my heart.

With that said, it is an absolute honor to go to Germany to judge this amazing breed!

Thank you ever so much for the invitation and I hope to see you there!
